Youth tech innovation in Ethiopia is rising fast as the country builds a digital future. To lead that future, young people need more than just tech skills they need leadership. That’s exactly what Safe Light Initiative delivered during its recent Tech Leadership Training in Addis Ababa..
Youth tech innovation in Ethiopia is more important than ever. As technology changes the world, Ethiopia must build a new generation of leaders who understand both digital tools and leadership.
The Safe Light Initiative is working to close this gap. On May 28–29, 2025, they held a Tech Leadership Training in Addis Ababa. The two-day event gave young people a chance to grow their tech skills and learn how to lead.
Over 70% of Ethiopians are under 30. That means the country has a big opportunity. But schools often don’t teach the skills needed in today’s tech world. Programs like this fill that gap.
When youth learn digital literacy and leadership, they become problem-solvers. They can create new solutions for issues in health, education, and farming. They also become more confident and ready to take on challenges in their communities.
Tech leaders are also important because they help create new ideas and solutions. They can use technology to solve local problems like poor healthcare, lack of good schools, and farming challenges. These leaders can bring people together to create solutions that fit Ethiopia’s needs and culture.
Here are some highlights from the training:
Tech leaders are not just skilled—they are drivers of change. They bring people together and help move the country forward. With the right support, young Ethiopians can lead the way in Africa’s digital transformation.
By teaching leadership alongside tech skills, Safe Light is helping create a generation of youth who won’t just follow trends—they’ll set them.
