At a recent event focused on youth empowerment and financial inclusion, Mr. Gadisa Shawol , Mekanisa Branch Manager of Cooperative Bank of Oromia (COOP), shared valuable insights on the challenges youth entrepreneurs face in accessing capital. Although empowering refugee youth involves more than job opportunities and financial independence. To address this, the Cooperative Bank of Oromia (COOP) has introduced non-collateral loans, providing a lifeline for aspiring business owners. These loans enable entrepreneurs to secure the funding needed to drive economic growth and Empowering Refugee Youth .
Empowering Women with “Kiya” Savings
Recognizing the financial challenges women face, COOP launched “Kiya”—a dedicated women’s savings account. This initiative encourages women to save, invest, and build financial independence, fostering long-term economic empowerment.
Digital Banking for Financial Inclusion
COOP has embraced digital banking to make financial services more accessible. Besides Their user-friendly app allows customers, particularly youth and women, to easily manage savings, apply for loans, and perform transactions—all without the need to visit a branch. This innovation ensures that financial services are at their fingertips, no matter where they are.
